The song “Darker Still” which is written by Parkway Drive (Winston McCall) describes the faith that the world is going to end. The meaning of the phrase “The night grows darker still” according to the Winston McCall concept is “things are getting regrettable”.
We can better understand the concept of Winston McCall when we face the situation of depression and destruction. In this situation, the artist tries to put a more romantic spin on the notion. So instead of just sounding like a singer who is ready for the end, he sounds more like someone who is trying to hold onto his relationship but is worried that it won't work out.
“And the night grows darker still
And the night grows darker still
And the night grows dark
Darker still!”

The last few years have been tough, especially for those in the entertainment industry. After touring non-stop for 17 years, the pandemic shutdown was a major challenge. If we set our minds on other inventive paths, we also get a greater outlook of the impact this band has had on us. Mental health is the serious issue in our society in present days and we have no anomaly. We realized that we were at a crossroads when touring started back up.
We knew that we had to make a choice: either continue down the same path and risk more damage, or take the time needed to do the work on ourselves and heal. We are doing the work and know that eventually, this was the correct option.

Parkway Drive was created in early 2003. The group got their name from the street where they had their home rehearsal space and live venue, 'The Parkway House'. The 2009 documentary Parkway Drive: The DVD states that there weren't many places for punk rock and hardcore punk bands to practice and perform and that 'Parkway House' was a little oasis for the group and all of their friends. The group first played together at the Byron Bay Youth Centre. Michael Crafter, who was visiting from Adelaide at the time, saw the group play and was interested in what they were doing.
The two groups released a split CD in 2003 and toured together that year. In 2004, the band signed with Resist Records and released their first EP. They toured with Shadows Fall, Chimaira, Hatebreed, and Alexisonfire that year. In early 2005, Winston McCall commented on the EP's success, saying he was surprised that "for six songs it's done amazing for us...I'm surprised that kids picked it up so well. After Brett Versteeg was replaced by Shaun Cash, Parkway Drive flew to the United States to record their debut full-length album, killing with a Smile, with Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz in just two weeks. Manager Graham Nixon later noted that it was not common for an Australian band to head overseas and work with a producer of that calibre.
The album debuted on the Australian Album (ARIA) charts at 39. In 2006, the group toured Europe and North America. Overdue May 2006, Shaun Cash who was the bass player left the band due the personal reasons and "merch guy" and Jia “Pie” O’Connor join the band. In June 2006, Parkway Drive signed to American punk label Epitaph.
