At the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards held at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, Sean "Diddy" Combs was honored with the prestigious Global Icon Award. Diddy, the 53-year-old music mogul and producer, took a trip down memory lane as he received this remarkable recognition.

The iconic Mary J. Blige had the privilege of presenting Diddy's Global Icon performance and paid a heartfelt tribute to him. She referred to him as a "big brother" and emphasized that his Bad Boy Records had achieved a staggering milestone of selling over 500 million albums worldwide. Taking the stage, Diddy treated the audience to his signature Diddy-bop and delivered a powerful rendition of his 1997 hit, "I'll Be Missing You." Notably, this marked Diddy's first performance at the VMAs since 2005.

Adding to the emotional resonance of the moment, Diddy was joined onstage by his son, King Combs, for several tracks, including "It's All About the Benjamins," "I Need a Girl," and "Mo Money Mo Problems." The star-studded lineup didn't end there, as Yung Miami and Keyshia Cole also graced the stage alongside Diddy.

A heartwarming moment occurred when Diddy's daughter, Chance Combs, joined forces with Mary J. Blige to present her father with the esteemed Global Icon Award. In attendance were Diddy's other children—Jessie James, D'Lila, and Justin Dior Combs, as well as Diddy's beloved mother, Janice.

Reflecting on his journey, Diddy mentioned his very first VMAs appearance in 1997 when he performed "Mo Money Mo Problems." He also had the honor of hosting the VMAs in 2005. Over the course of his illustrious career, Diddy has secured two VMAs.

Receiving the Global Icon Award, Diddy described the moment as "surreal." He shared his childhood dream of watching MTV and hoping to be on that stage one day. While his aspiration to play for the Pittsburgh Steelers never materialized, another dream took root: becoming a successful producer and record executive.

Diddy's pivotal moment came in 1993 when he founded Bad Boy Records, which would go on to feature legendary artists such as the late Notorious B.I.G., Mary J. Blige, Faith Evans, 112, Ma$e, Cassie, and many others.

In his acceptance speech, Diddy expressed gratitude for being able to pursue his passion for 30 years consistently and attributed his success to a gift from God, reminding everyone that it's essential not to undertake such a journey alone.

In true Diddy fashion, he concluded his speech by announcing his upcoming album, "The Love Album: Off the Grid," set to release on Friday. This album marks his first since 2010's "Last Train to Paris."
