Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift's enduring friendship was on full display at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards, where they wholeheartedly supported each other throughout the night.
When Gomez and Rema clinched the Best Afrobeats award for their track "Calm Down," Swift couldn't contain her joy for her close friend. Swift was spotted dancing and enthusiastically waving her hands in the air as Gomez accepted the award on stage.
Earlier in the evening, Swift had her moment in the spotlight when she was announced as the winner of the Best Pop award. Gomez, in a show of unwavering support, stood up throughout Swift's first acceptance speech of the night.
Later on, the inseparable duo posed for photographs. Gomez looked stunning in a striking red gown, while Swift channeled her "Reputation" era in a black dress featuring a daring thigh-high slit.
One of the photos captured Gomez and Swift side by side, with Gomez affectionately wrapping her arms around the "Karma" singer.
In another snapshot, the two friends shared an excited embrace, presumably after one of Swift's victories was announced.
These powerhouse pop stars have been each other's biggest supporters for years. Just last month, Gomez enjoyed a memorable evening with her younger sister, Gracie, at Swift's concert. In that same month, Swift demonstrated her support for Gomez's latest song, "Single Soon."
Swift, who earned eight nominations, has already secured the Song of the Year award and is in contention for Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, and more at the event. Meanwhile, although Gomez and Rema missed out on the Song of the Year award to Swift, they are still contenders for the Best Collaboration category.
The 2023 MTV Video Music Awards unfolded at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, with the live broadcast starting at 8 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.
