David Foster and Katharine McPhee are still coping with the loss of their nanny, Yadira Calito, who tragically passed away in an accident back in August.
In an exclusive interview with ET, the couple opened up about their grief. David Foster shared, "It's been tough for her," referring to McPhee. McPhee added, "Yeah, it's been tough. She's managing." It's clear that the loss has had a profound impact on them both.
The heartbreaking incident occurred in August, prompting McPhee to announce her early departure from the Hitman Tour that she and Foster were performing. She referred to it as a "horrible tragedy."
Subsequently, the LAPD revealed that Calito was at the Hamer Toyota dealership service center in Mission Hills, California, when an 84-year-old woman crashed her Toyota RAV4 into the building, causing significant damage and injuring several people, including Calito. Tragically, Calito, aged 55, succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. Remarkably, the driver responsible for the collision was unharmed.
Despite the immense sorrow, David Foster and Katharine McPhee have returned to their professional pursuits. They are currently working on creating music for the holiday season, with a new release in the continuation of Christmas Songs.
Foster expressed their motivation, saying, "We got a nice response from the first seven songs so we thought, 'Oh, people are kinda digging this.'" McPhee clarified, "Volume two, we'll just complete the whole thing," emphasizing that it's not an entirely new Christmas album but a continuation of their previous work.
For Foster, a seasoned figure in the music industry, crafting holiday music is second nature. He explained his versatility, sharing that he can take a song and reinterpret it in various styles, whether jazzy, country, classical, slow, or fast.
McPhee finds joy in collaborating with her husband on these projects. She described the process as "fast and furious" due to Foster's intense focus. She also highlighted the special moments when she's in the recording booth and hears Foster's guidance, emphasizing his exceptional skills at recording vocals.
In summary, David Foster and Katharine McPhee are navigating their grief after the loss of their nanny, while also channeling their creative energies into making holiday music together. Despite the challenges, their partnership continues to flourish both personally and professionally.
