Demi Lovato recently discussed her 2015 hit single, "Cool For the Summer," in an interview on The Howard Stern Show. The song's lyrics sparked speculation about a same-sex encounter, but Lovato didn't disclose the identity of the person involved. However, she did drop a hint.

When asked if the song was about a famous individual, Lovato responded with a cryptic "What if it is? Yeah."

Pushed further by Stern to reveal the person behind "Cool For the Summer," Lovato declined, stating that it wouldn't be appropriate given her current relationship status.

"I'm in a relationship now, and I feel like that would be inappropriate," explained the "Confident" singer, referring to her relationship with Jutes, which began in 2022. She also admitted that she missed the opportunity to address it earlier.

Lovato also shared that the song was released before she publicly came out as bisexual. However, when she eventually came out to her parents, they were very accepting and had already suspected her orientation.

"I actually released it before I came out as bisexual at the time," she told Stern. "I just grew up in a Christian home and was kind of traumatized in that area and didn't want to come out. When I came out, my dad was like 'Yeah, you have a song called 'Cool For The Summer.' Like, it's obvious.'"

Lovato acknowledged going through a phase of dating older men, attributing it to her "daddy issues." While she didn't mention him by name, Lovato had a public relationship with That '70s Show star Wilmer Valderrama from 2010 to 2016. Their relationship began when Lovato was 17 and Valderrama was 29, but they reportedly started dating when she turned 18. Lovato's 2022 single, "29," is rumored to be inspired by her relationship with Valderrama.

She added that she believes she has since worked through her "daddy issues" and now feels confident in her relationship with Jutes, who is a year older than her.
