Ed Sheeran has confirmed the rumors about having a gravesite in his backyard and explained his thoughtful reasoning behind it. The 32-year-old GRAMMY-winning singer clarified that it's not a crypt, as previously reported, but rather a chapel.

Sheeran revealed to GQ magazine that he wanted a space for the ashes of people in his life who have been cremated, as well as a place where his friends could get married. He emphasized that it's not just a space for death but also for celebrating life's milestones.

Describing the gravesite, Sheeran said, "It's a hole dug in the ground with a bit of stone over it, so whenever the day comes and I pass away, I'll have a place there." He acknowledged that some might find it strange or morbid, but he's seen friends pass away without wills, and he wants to ensure a proper resting place.

Sheeran also mentioned that this space would be somewhere his two daughters, with Cherry Seaborn, could visit him when he eventually passes away.

While contemplating the afterlife doesn't bother Sheeran, he reflected on the creation of one of his biggest hits, "Perfect," which he wrote for his now-wife, Cherry Seaborn, just two months into their relationship. Initially, he was concerned that the song might come across as overly cheesy, but it turned out not to be the case. Sheeran and Seaborn got married in 2019 and are parents to two daughters, Lyra (born in 2020) and Jupiter (born in 2022).

Sheeran has been relatively private about his children, but he recently shared how they inspired him to change his drinking habits. He realized the need to be responsible when Cherry was pregnant with their first child and made a conscious decision to cut down on excessive drinking as he entered his thirties. Sheeran acknowledged that while he enjoys a couple of beers or some red wine, he didn't want to go down the path of excessive alcohol consumption common among some veteran rockers.
