Ed Sheeran has drawn inspiration from his close friendship with Courteney Cox to create a new song titled "American Town," which is set to feature on his upcoming album, Autumn Variations. The 32-year-old singer recently shared a video of himself serenading Cox with this heartfelt track.

Before launching into his performance, Sheeran acknowledged Cox's influence on the song, recognizing her iconic role as Monica Geller on the popular TV show, Friends.

"Courteney, I've crafted a song that was born out of my admiration for Friends, the series where you made your mark," Sheeran revealed with a smile. "I'm excited to share it with you. It's called 'American Town.'"

With that, Sheeran began playing the song, singing lyrics like, "We find ourselves far from our roots / It's been ages since we last convened / Yet in one fleeting moment, it all falls into place / Though the year began with an icy chill / I hardly felt it at all / When we rediscovered that shared space."

"We'd order Chinese takeout in those little white boxes / Reliving moments from our beloved Friends," he continued to sing. "Your room barely fits that old mattress / Dawn breaks, it's time to hit the grind again / The chilly wind seems to cut right through us / Puffy jackets are now in style."

Cox was visibly moved by Sheeran's performance, exclaiming, "Oh my goodness, I absolutely adore that. Impressive!" She playfully added, "So, do I get a royalty check now?"

Sheeran and Cox have maintained a strong friendship over the years, with the singer even playing matchmaker and introducing Cox to her partner, Johnny McDaid. Their bond has led to numerous entertaining collaborations, including renditions of "The Routine" from Friends, attempts at the iconic Dirty Dancing lift, and shared musical performances.
