Matty Healy, the frontman of The 1975, surprised fans during a tour stop in Sacramento, California, by announcing that the band will be going on an "indefinite hiatus" after completing its current tour. The announcement was met with audible gasps from the audience, and a video of the moment quickly circulated on social media. Healy, dressed in an unbuttoned white shirt and holding a guitar, appeared emotional as he shared the news.

"We love performing for you all whenever we have the chance, and it's wonderful to have you here tonight," Healy said. "After this tour, we will be taking an indefinite break from live shows."

It's not entirely clear if the hiatus pertains only to live performances or if the band plans to take a complete break from their music career. In the past, The 1975 has referred to breaks following album cycles as hiatuses.

As of now, the band still has 36 more scheduled dates on its North American tour, concluding on December 2 at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, Washington. Following this, they are set to kick off the European leg in February 2024 in Scotland.

The past year has been eventful for The 1975, particularly for Matty Healy. He briefly dated Taylor Swift before their split in June, following Swift's breakup with British actor Joe Alwyn. Healy also made headlines for kissing a male security guard during a performance of "Robbers" at a music festival in Denmark. This wasn't the first time he engaged in such actions during performances, as he has previously kissed fans, regardless of their gender, while performing the track.

Additionally, the band made a statement against anti-LGBTQ+ laws in Malaysia during their performance at the Good Vibes Festival in Kuala Lumpur. Healy kissed his bandmate, Ross MacDonald, and passionately denounced the country's homophobic legislation, leading to the festival being shut down by government officials.
