Travis Scott, the renowned rapper, found himself facing a grilling during a deposition session on Monday, which is part of the ongoing legal proceedings involving hundreds of lawsuits stemming from the tragic events at the 2021 Astroworld festival.

This deposition, held in Houston, is expected to span several days and involves Scott responding to questions from legal representatives. Due to a gag order, those involved in the lawsuits are limited in what they can disclose beyond what occurs during court hearings.

As of now, no comment has been provided by Travis Scott's attorney, and a spokesperson for Scott has mentioned that a statement regarding Monday's deposition is in the works.

This marks the first instance in which Scott has been questioned by attorneys representing the plaintiffs, following the crowd surge incident at his concert on November 5, 2021, which resulted in the tragic deaths of 10 festivalgoers. The victims, aged between 9 and 27, succumbed to compression asphyxia, a condition akin to being crushed by a car. Similar incidents of crowd surges leading to suffocation have occurred worldwide, including at a soccer stadium in England, the hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia, and Halloween events in South Korea.

Court documents filed in April revealed over 1,500 active cases, with many targeting both Scott and Live Nation, the concert promoter. Among these, 992 cases involve physical injuries, and 313 pertain to emotional distress, pain, suffering, and mental anguish. Seventeen orthopedic surgeries have been performed in connection with these cases, with recommendations for additional surgeries in 21 instances.

Some of the lawsuits have already been resolved, notably those brought by the families of three individuals who lost their lives at the concert. In June, a grand jury in Houston decided not to indict Travis Scott or five others on criminal charges related to the tragic event.

It's worth noting that Scott's deposition coincided with a performance by hip-hop artist Drake in Houston. Drake, who performed alongside Scott at the Astroworld concert, is also facing legal action in connection with the incident.
