During the hearing, a Manhattan judge scheduled a trial date for January 2, 2024, regarding Turner and Jonas' ongoing custody and living situation dispute involving their children. Joe Jonas did not attend the hearing.

Turner's lawyers pushed for an early trial date due to her upcoming work commitments in the U.K. starting in January. They requested a two-day trial to resolve the custody matter before her work obligations. Turner participated in the virtual hearing from Taylor Swift's Tribeca residence and later left with a friend, heading to the Four Seasons, where her lawyers joined her for the court session.

Joe Jonas' legal team, on the other hand, argued for a later trial date. They pointed out that his final U.S. tour date with the Jonas Brothers is on December 9, and the estranged couple has an in-person divorce hearing scheduled for December 14. His lawyers anticipated that the custody trial would span at least four days due to the need to call several witnesses.

The 34-year-old singer filed for divorce from Sophie Turner just last month after four years of marriage. A mere 16 days later, Turner filed a lawsuit against Jonas, claiming "wrongful retention" in regards to custody. Following her lawsuit, they agreed to an Interim Consent Order that prevents the children from being taken out of New York until further court orders are issued.
