SZA recently reminisced about her brief relationship with Drake in 2009, describing it as a lighthearted and youthful fling. In an interview for a Rolling Stone cover story, the singer-songwriter shared her perspective on their short-lived romance, characterizing it as being more about the carefree energy of youth rather than anything intense.

"We were really young," SZA explained. "It wasn't a passionate, intense affair or anything like that. It had those carefree, youthful vibes. It was quite childish."

SZA and Drake's past involvement came back into the spotlight in 2020 when Drake's song "Mr. Right Now" made reference to their relationship with lyrics like, "Yeah, said she wanna f--- to some SZA, wait / 'Cause I used to date SZA back in '08." However, SZA clarified on social media that their connection actually took place in 2009, emphasizing that it wasn't inappropriate or creepy given the circumstances.

"So it was actually 2009 lol ... in this case, a year of poetic rap license mattered lol," she clarified on X (formerly Twitter). "I think he just innocently rhymed '08' with 'wait.' Anyone who really knows me and was around during this time can confirm ... it's all love, all peace."

SZA went on to mention in a reply that the relationship was from a long time ago and was entirely innocent.

Fast forward to the present day, and SZA and Drake remain on good terms. They recently collaborated on their first-ever song together, "Slime You Out," which was featured on Drake's album, "For All the Dogs." The track quickly rose to the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, marking SZA's second song to achieve such status after "Kill Bill" earlier this year.
