The Voice': Gwen Stefani Gets a Surprise from Former Backup Singer Ms. Monet Ms. Monet received chair turns from both Gwen and Reba McEntire during her impressive Blind Audition on Tuesday's episode of The Voice. However, as Gwen began discussing Ms. Monet's potential as a solo artist, a surprising revelation unfolded - they had already worked together.
During her performance of Steve Winwood's "Higher Love," Ms. Monet caught the attention of Gwen and Reba. When Gwen engaged in conversation with Ms. Monet about her star potential, Ms. Monet dropped the bombshell that they had collaborated before.
"Didn't you release a Christmas album in 2017? I sang background vocals on that album!" Ms. Monet disclosed, even singing a snippet from Gwen's holiday duet with husband Blake Shelton, "You Make It Feel Like Christmas."
"That's me and Blakey!" Gwen exclaimed.
"That's me with you, girl!" Ms. Monet confirmed.
"I knew it! I had a feeling I had to turn my chair!" Gwen explained her decision to turn her chair for the experienced vocalist.
In the midst of competition, Reba highlighted her passion for touring and harmonizing with Ms. Monet, while John Legend praised her impressive vocal range and diverse talents, hoping her time on The Voice would help her recognize her well-deserved place in the spotlight.
In a surprising twist, Ms. Monet ultimately decided that her best chance to elevate her singing career was to join Team Reba.
When ET interviewed the coaches ahead of the season premiere, Reba expressed how warmly Gwen, Niall, and John welcomed her to the show, akin to a sisterly embrace. However, she noted that the friendly atmosphere shifted when it was time to get serious.
"They've been supportive, guiding me, and teaching me. But once I reached a certain point, they said, 'Now, you're on your own,'" she recalled.
"We still want to win against her," John chimed in with a laugh.
